The Importance of Upgrades in World of Warcraft
Upgrades are new items that increase your stats. They can be used to upgrade your armor, trinkets and weapons.
Upgrades to items employ a method called "upgrade pity" to determine probabilities. This system is meant to reduce chances of losing and provide a solid safety net when upgrading.
Armor

Note: The item you use to apply an upgrade is consumed for life. You cannot have multiple upgrades applied to a piece of equipment. Attempting to apply an upgrade on one already applied will cause the previous upgrade to be overwritten.
The process of upgrading your gear is a great method to make the most of your gear, and increase your damage, survivability, and overall power. For instance, if have new Benthic gear that you purchased from the War Within Mythic Dungeon, it will be ilvl 385 by default. It can be upgraded to a higher level by using [Prismatic Manapearlsor [Prismatic Manapearls]. Upgrades for PvE gear are account-wide, while upgrades for PvP gear require a particular currency, such as [Valorstones] or [Harbinger Crests]. Weapons

Trinkets

Certain NPCs only offer upgrades for specific kinds of equipment, whereas others allow you to upgrade any type of item. Certain NPCs provide additional benefits to those who complete their quests.
